Recycling cartridges
I have some envelopes also. They are in my mailbox. Help yourself.

I moved the envelopes for recycling the print cartridges to the drawer in Sandy's desk that has the cartridges. That way you can pull one at the same time you replace the cartridge.
I picked up a supply of mail-in envelopes for recycling printer cartridges They are from Petsmart and proceeds benefit homeless animals. I placed the envelopes on the shelf in the back near the water pitcher. Each envelope holds about 6 cartridges and is postage pre-paid.
The binder of instructions on handling magazine article requests is now labeled "Magazines Handbook" on its spine, and is with the other binders on the shelf behind the Reference desk.
Rick and I went through the newspapers stacks and reviewed how long we will be keeping each newspaper. I have weeded the issues we will no longer be keeping and have updated the newspaper list that is at the reference desk. I have also updated the website so it has the correct retention for each newspaper. Please remember we do not process the newspapers so you cannot find them on Swan but you can check to see if we have a certain newspaper on our magazine/newspaper list on our website, the union list of serials or the newspaper list I keep at the reference desk.
Any questions please let me know.
Everyone,
Heather started an idea page on the wiki for displays. We can gather ideas there for a short while and them organize them. I have started a spreadsheet onto which we can build a schedule.
I have ordered a burgundy book cart for our display right by the desk. It should be different enough from any other cart in the building to not get lost.
Keep the ideas coming. Thanks.
Rick
There is a new look to the magazines. There will no longer be any pockets in them and the bar code will now be on the front cover in the left upper corner under the magazine title.
In the summer on Mondays the circulation staff will put the Sunday papers back by reference so patrons may look at them. When I come in I will log them in and process the magazines and book reviews. However, when we are open on Sundays the reference staff working on Sunday will take care of the Sunday papers. I will leave instructions on what to pull and where everything will go. Any questions, let me know.
If you need to reach me I am in tech services Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons. Also for the time being I share a phone with Beth so you can just press Beth's extension to reach me by phone.

FYI, I have changed the Western Springs Reads book review forms to have 5 stars instead of 4, to be more consistent with other rating systems (e.g. on SWAN). Please remember to fill them out and encourage others to do so. Adult Summer Reading Program registrants get a free raffle ticket for each one they fill out.
I have put up the Good Reads for Summer display. Please, anyone, if you have read anything lately that you enjoyed, put it out on the display. Otherwise people will have to read the same old stuff that I always put out for them!
The old reference computer starting talking with the others again on its own. I did not fix it.
