Minutes from Adult Services Meeting, 12/1/04

Big Read Grant
Nancy described the area reading program and the items that we are ordering. We are set to have a book discussion on Devil in the White City here on March 16, which Rick will lead. We will also have the slide lecturer Jane Clark here on Saturday afternoon, March 19; someone will have to pick up the speaker at the train station. This will be at 1:00 p.m., after a morning children’s program. We may want to schedule extra help for set up.

Digitization of Western Springs Houses Photos
The Illinois State Library is visiting on Friday, December 17 to deliver, install, and train us on the software for the project. Nancy will be doing much of the scanning and data entry. Susan R. said she is available to help if we need. We will do a little preparation work in December and really start in January.

Young Adults
Jane has retired. We had lunch with her on Wednesday. Aaron will order YA materials until we have hired someone to the position. Anne has suggested 10 hours per week for a YA librarian.

Our Web Site
Aaron is transferring all our web site onto a more secure part of the MLS server and is using a new version of Moveable Type. We should be less vulnerable to hackers.

Staff Exchange
As part of the new software and upgrading the web site, Aaron is setting up the staff exchange to be library wide.

Pamphlet Files
Everyone has completed their pamphlet file weeding. Rick will now review and consolidate more if possible. He may add a few items, too.

Newsletter
The newsletter is out. It was delivered in Western Springs on December 1. It has programs through February.

Calendar
We will have our in-service day on Friday, December 10. We will be closed on December 24, 25, 26, and 31.
