Hi from Kristin
Hi everyone. Wanted to let you know my email address:

I am a few dates late getting this posted, but here is a summary of our meeting.
The main order of business was to introduce Kristin Schar to the adult services staff, and to let her meet everyone with whom she will work.
I announced that Anne K. has signed a contract with Konica Minolta to replace our printer/copier. The new machine will be faster and take less space, but we have given up folding and stapling. We will pay a slightly higher monthly lease, but the per print service fee goes down. We should save money over the five year lease. Delivery is not yet set.
We discussed the website and the upcoming committee meeting. Satff wants ready access to search, advanced search and patron account, a picture of the library, and a permanent link to the obit site and the western spring history site.
We are hosting the Zone 1-4 Reference Librarians on Wednesday, September 13 at 10:00 a.m. So far 12 librarians have sent an R.S.V.P.
Everyone believes we should get a public fax machine.
We will meet again at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 4.
Rick
Some one was looking for Mimi and Toutou's Big Adventure. I found it today and am giving it to Kris to assign a new call number.
In the last week, I've twice had all of my Firefox internet tabs suddenly disappear, i.e., close. They were in separate windows that I had opened, and they disappeared when I wasn't looking. My other applications did not shut down.
Has this happened to anyone else?
How do we access the hold list for IPODs?
Kris
Does anyone know where this set is? The catalog says we have it, but it's not on the shelf. Call no. is R 610.25/DIR. There are 2 volumes. I looked in the stacks and on the tables, reading room, etc., but I can't find it anywhere. If anyone knows any clues to this mystery, please let me know. I told a patron I'd call her when I found out. Thanks!
There is a problem with our Context subscription and we may not get any more issues till November or January. EBSCO is working with the magazine to get it restarted. I have already had one patron ask me about the subscription so I wanted everyone to know in case someone asks.
Reference computers 1, 2, and 3 are now new and they are connected to the new Minolta printer. Like before the prints go into a hold at the checkout desk. I put Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers and links to Firstsearch, EBSCO, Chicago Tribune, and the Standard and Poors on the computers' desktops, as well as Microsoft Office programs and Wordperfect. Also Adobe reader.
Let me know if there is anything else I forgot.
Reference computers 4 and 5 are also now connected to the new Minolta. In the computer room, numbers 1, 2, and 4 are connected. Number 3 is a Windows 2000 machine and needs a different driver, which I will try to get from the tech who is coming back on Tuesday afternoon to help set up some other functions on the Minolta.
I actually used the magnifier near the atlas stand today. Our library user want to look at a map but was having trouble reading the fine print. He was delighted.
I put a sign over the paper recycling can saying that it is paper recycling. Perhaps it will be more noticed than the sign on the can. I also put the reference waste can out so people can choose it for their drink cups. Now it is out from under our feet.
I ordered a new copy of Manual for Writers by Kate Turabian for reference, as our copy is falling apart.
The Konica Minolta appears to still be out of order. I will be off on Monday for working the weekend, but I will be persuing an answer as to why from home.
Can we move the October meeting to Wednesday, the 11th? Both Nancy and Julie have confricts with the 4th?
As you may have heard, John is teaching full time at Lyons Township High School and no longer has time to fill the young adult librarians position. He will hold one more Teen Board Meeting on Sunday, October 1 at 4:00 p.m. At that meeting, the teens will plan the bake sale that accompanies the WS Library Friends Book Sale and plan one more game night under his reign.
We will be seeking a new teen librarian soon.
One of the activities that the new teen librarian will take on is working with LTHS's area-wide reading program.
People having been asking. The answer is that Aaron starts classes the week on September 25th.
I posted the teen librarian's job on the MLS website at http://www.mls.lib.il.us/jobs/detail.asp?recordID=1092
The new Minolta will be delivered on Friday. I hope that we can connect to it quickly with the work we have already done.
The adult services department meeting has been moved to October 11, 2006 at 8:30 a.m.
