Department Head notes from October 5, 2006

Anne asked us for summer reading statistics for a report to the Board.

She also reported on completion of the application for next year’s per capita grants. We plan to spend the 2007 grant for the following:

Materials in special formats, such as large print, audiobooks, cds (music) and dvds
Additions to the adult fiction collection, especially mysteries and new fiction
Nonfiction for young adults
Audiovisual materials for children
The annual staff in-service day

Anne reports that we were awarded a grant of $4500 for developing a library strategic plan. Consultant Jenna Hendricks (sp?) will help the staff and board make a plan to get the library where it wants to be ten years from now.

This year’s staff in-service day is Friday, October 27. We will start at 8:30 with coffee and sweet rolls. The program will last from 9:00 to noon. We will have an hour for lunch and then department meetings will follow.

Julie reported that business magazines have been disappearing form the reading room. She will be putting up a sign stating that they are available for loan when the next issue arrives.

More calendar notes. We will be closed Friday, December 8 for our end of the year in-service. Christmas holidays are December 24, 25, and 26. New Years are December 31 and January 1 and 2. We will close at 5:00 on Wednesday, November 22 for Thanksgiving
