This will allow more room for the Suburban Life microfilm which is running out of room. I will also be adjusting the Chicago Tribune microfilm. There is not enough room for all the Trib microfilm to be upstairs but after we make the adjustments we can add more upstairs.

Rick and I went through the newspapers stacks and reviewed how long we will be keeping each newspaper. I have weeded the issues we will no longer be keeping and have updated the newspaper list that is at the reference desk. I have also updated the website so it has the correct retention for each newspaper. Please remember we do not process the newspapers so you cannot find them on Swan but you can check to see if we have a certain newspaper on our magazine/newspaper list on our website, the union list of serials or the newspaper list I keep at the reference desk.
Any questions please let me know.

      Everyone,

Heather started an idea page on the wiki for displays. We can gather ideas there for a short while and them organize them. I have started a spreadsheet onto which we can build a schedule.

I have ordered a burgundy book cart for our display right by the desk. It should be different enough from any other cart in the building to not get lost.

Keep the ideas coming. Thanks.

There is a new look to the magazines. There will no longer be any pockets in them and the bar code will now be on the front cover in the left upper corner under the magazine title.

In the summer on Mondays the circulation staff will put the Sunday papers back by reference so patrons may look at them. When I come in I will log them in and process the magazines and book reviews. However, when we are open on Sundays the reference staff working on Sunday will take care of the Sunday papers. I will leave instructions on what to pull and where everything will go. Any questions, let me know.

If you need to reach me I am in tech services Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons. Also for the time being I share a phone with Beth so you can just press Beth's extension to reach me by phone.

      Everyone,

I have been unable so far to get the new reference desk computer to join the network so that we can access documents from various computers. It also means I have not been able to get the magazine desk computer to print to the printer at the reference desk. I am reading up on networking.

The other problem is that the old reference desk computer suddenly seems to have lost its network setting, too. I am trying to reconnect it.

So, this sounds like the old TV announcement, that we are having network difficulties.

I have set up the new computer at the reference desk. I will try to get Sandy to load Millennium on Thursday or Friday. Otherwise, everyone who works the desk has an account with a desktop that can be customized.

I set up the old computer in back so you can find any fills that you have not yet backed up.

Microsoft Office looks like it does in the computer room. I have not added any other software yet.

Let me know any questions that you have.
